The Health Sciences Library is pleased to announce that two new librarians have joined our staff. Please welcome Rhonda Altonen, M.S., M.L.S., our new Research Services Librarian, and Melissa Spangenberg, M.L.S., Digital Services Librarian.
Rhonda has worked in a health sciences library for many years, first as a library technician and media specialist and then, upon obtaining her Master of Library Science, as an Education and Emerging Technologies Librarian. She worked for the University of Colorado Health Sciences Library from 2005-2012, when she moved back to New York. For a short time she ran the Barrytown College of the Unification Theological Seminary library and most recently served as the Technical Services Librarian for the Culinary Institute of America. Rhonda also holds a Master of Science in Instructional Design and Technology. As well as offering professional reference services, Rhonda is looking forward to working with our researchers on systematic reviews and promoting evidence-based practice.
Melissa also has a health sciences library background. Since 2011, she has been the Electronic Resources Librarian at Hollis Health Sciences Library at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, NY. From 2006 to 2011 she worked as a librarian in a variety of libraries, from theater to publishing. She is also trained as an emergency medical technician. Melissa serves the educational, research and information needs of the college community via the creation and maintenance of web-based interactive content, tutorials, and reference service. She will be crucial to the Library’s digitization initiatives.
