Library Readings Supplement “Deadly Medicine” Content

The Health Sciences Library has launched a concurrent exhibit and collection of materials to supplement the content in the “Deadly Medicine” exhibit currently on display in the Skyline cafeteria space. If you haven’t been to see this exhibit, you are strongly encouraged to go. As quoted from the New York Times, this exhibition “should be a part of every citizen’s experience.” It should certainly be part of the experience of all clinicians and students at New York Medical College. “Deadly Medicine” is open for viewing Sundays – Wednesdays 11am-4pm and Thursdays 11am-8pm until September 3rd.

The readings in the library enhance the experience of the exhibit, which of course raises as many questions as it answers. You can view the list of materials on display at the Skyline Library and a bibliography of materials on the web guide created for the collection at http://guides.library.nymc.edu/nazimedicine. The full bibliography is online and the library will fulfill document delivery requests (scan and email) to anyone who requests articles free of charge during the exhibit period. Books will not be copied. nazimed

Also please be aware that there will be a special lecture and panel discussion led by Edward Halperin, Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of New York Medical College on Sunday August 3rd. Dr. Halperin will be speaking on “Eugenics, the Holocaust, and Their Implications for Medical Ethics in the Midst of a War on Terror.” The lecture will take place in the Skyline Auditorium (19 Skyline Drive, Hawthorne, NY). RSVP for this event.

Students and visitors will also have an opportunity to view the exhibit during orientation week and in conjunction with the White Coat Ceremony on August 1.  Groups wishing to book a slot to tour the exhibit may do so here: http://calendar.library.nymc.edu/deadlymedicinegrouptours.
