Are you writing a systematic review, scoping review, or other article synthesizing evidence? If so, you are likely aware of many AI tools to help with the process. On November 11, 2025 the Cochrane Collaboration, the Campbell Collaboration, JBI, and the Collaboration for Environmental Evidence published a joint position statement on artificial intelligence (AI) use in evidence synthesis. Their goal is to “safeguard evidence synthesis as the cornerstone of trusted, evidence‐informed decision making” by promoting the responsible use of AI.
Key points are that authors:
- Are responsible for their decision to use AI and for adherence to legal and ethical standards;
- Must demonstrate that use of AI will not compromise the methodological rigor or integrity of their synthesis;
- Must use AI with human oversight;
- Should report AI use in the manuscript fully and transparently.
