Enhancements to Library Resource Access — No Joke!

This April Fools’ Day the Health Sciences Library is happy to announce the implementation of two enhancements that have been requested over the past year.

First, announcing SUMMON! Summon is a tool that allows you to search across the library’s many databases with one search box right on the top of the library home page (http://library.nymc.edu). Almost everything from the library’s print collections, to PubMed, to Clinical Key, to online books can now be searched from a new single search box on the library’s home page. Librarysummon staff has been working hard behind the scenes to bring this product to you and we hope it meets your needs. Special thanks to Haldor Heimer and Afsar Mohiuddin in making this new tool a reality. It is still recommended that you search resources like PubMed for comprehensive literature reviews of the journal literature and to take advantage of special database features. Seasoned researchers may find Summon isn’t the best for in-depth research, but students will find it excellent for pointing them in the right direction to answer their questions.

A brown bag Lunch and Learn session will be offered to learn about Summon on Wednesday, April 6, at 12 noon in the library. Please attend.

And… drum roll please…

You can now log in to Health Sciences Library resources from off campus using your NYMC network login! We hope this eases access student and faculty access to our resources to our students and faculty. Residents will still be issued a barcode. Both methods will work moving forward.

Happy April Fools’ Day! I assure you this is not a joke!

Please contact us if you detect any glitches or have suggestions or comments.
