We’d like to introduce you to one of the newest librarians at the Health Sciences Library, Amanda (“Mandy”) Kaufman, who is our Access Services Librarian:
Where did you grow up, go to school, what did you study?
I grew up in Western Maryland. I received my Bachelors degree in Psychology from The George Washington University and my Masters in Library Science from the University of Maryland, College Park. My concentration is in Archives and Records Management.
What is an “Access Services Librarian”?
The Access Services Librarian supports the access services department by overseeing inter-library loans, compiling monthly reports on usage, assisting with reference questions and managing or coordinating the departmental services and library as needed.
Why did you become a librarian? What do you think are some of the most interesting things about the field?
I enjoy helping others find the information they are seeking. Some of the most interesting things about working in a library is the shift from print to digital and how to provide remote services to patrons.
Do you have any hobbies or special interests you’d like to share?
I’m an animal lover and have been a vegetarian for over 13 years.
Stop by the library and say hi in person! Mandy can be reached at 914-594-4201 or at amanda_kaufman@nymc.edu
