RefWorks released a new interface, version 2.0, last year. Due to some initial bugs, the Health Sciences Library didn’t adopt it for the use the NYMC community until recently. It is now an option on NYMC RefWorks accounts and will replace the old interface “RefWorks Classic” in the Fall. The upgrade is at this point mostly an interface upgrade addressing issues of usability and providing an updated look and improved accessibility.
We will run both interfaces side by side until RefWorks Classic is phased out. To try the new interface, log in as you normally do, then select “RefWorks 2.0” at the upper right of the resulting RefWorks screen (see Figure 1). You can toggle back and return to using Classic at any time until the permanent change takes place.
The new interface is designed to be more intuitive, clean and quick. The functionality is the same. One of the primary enhancements to the new interface is the 3 main tabbed sections: References, Folders, and Share (see Figure 2).
Another feature designed to enhance functionality of the product is the “Quick Access” bar which provides access to context specific tasks. Additonally, you will see that the 2.0 interface is more graphics-based which might require some getting used to. Updates to Write-N-Cite and RefGrab-It are coming shortly.
We hope you like the new interface. Please report any problems, potential bugs, impressions or comments to the Reference Desk at 914-594-4210 or via Ask A Librarian and we will work with RefWorks personnel on solutions for you.
