American Chemical Society (ACS) Publications has announced that until August 31st, author manuscripts currently in-process and new submissions that are funded by the NIH will be made immediately, freely available as “green” open access. This is a temporary opportunity to make your NIH-funded work in ACS publicly available with no fees and no embargo applied.
As a result of the latest NIH open-access mandate, NIH-funded submissions to ACS received after August 31st will be subject to an Article Development Charge unless they are published fully open access. The Article Development Charge will allow for the author’s accepted manuscript to be made immediately available, in compliance with NIH funding requirements.
As an aside, New York Medical College-corresponding authors who choose to publish fully open access this summer and beyond may receive a discount on open access publishing with ACS.
Publishing models and their associated fees and copyright implications are becoming more varied. Check in with the Scholarly Communication Librarian if you have any questions before you submit to a journal, or if you want to know more about our institutional agreements.
